Smart city Smart Hong Kong
A gist of the blog:
Major cities around the world are pursuing smart city development. We have commissioned a consultancy study on smart city development of Hong Kong, covering areas such as the environment, healthcare services, transportation and quality of life. The consultancy study, which will also offer suggestions on strategies of open data sharing and public-private collaboration model, is expected to complete in mid-2017. Based on results of the study, we will consider launching pilot projects at selected locations to test the feasibility of territory-wide application of these new technologies and solutions.

Meanwhile, the Development Bureau is testing the use of information and communication technologies in improving road traffic and pedestrian connectivity, through initiatives such as real-time dissemination of parking vacancy information via the “My Kowloon East” mobile app. In terms of urban management, the Water Services Department has been implementing the Water Intelligent Network by phases. Sensors will be installed in water supply networks to continuously monitor conditions of the water mains, with a view to managing leakages and water pressure, conducting repair works and replacing aged water mains more efficiently. DEVB is also working with relevant bureaux and departments in enhancing the existing geographic information systems that provide spatial data of facilities that are above, on and under ground level, in order to promote the share use of such data as well as further development and application of various smart city initiatives.
