Visit to Washington, DC
A gist of the blog:
Last week, I attended the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a member of the Chinese delegation in Washington, DC, US. I had met with the Governor of The People's Bank of China, Mr Zhou Xiaochuan, US Secretary of Commerce, Mr Wilbur Ross, the Chair of the Board of Governors of the US Federal Reserve System, Dr Janet Yellen, US Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Ms Sigal Mandelker, Under Secretary for Political Affairs of the US Department of State, Mr Thomas Shannon, as well as senior management of IMF, World Bank Group and several multinationals banks and financial institutions, to exchange views on matters of mutual interests.
I also took the opportunity to visit two prestigious think tanks, both of which have long commended Hong Kong for our commitment to economic freedom – the Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute. Attending a luncheon cum conference on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region presented by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Washington DC, I shared with the audience economic achievements of Hong Kong since the reunification with the motherland and the opportunities ahead.
