Shaping Our Future: Project WeCan Career

Photo

A gist of the blog:

Last Saturday, I attended the opening ceremony of Shape Our Future: WeCan! -Project WeCan Career Exploration Day. This meaningful project offered a wide range of life planning activities for more than 2,000 students from 53 secondary schools, to empower them for pursuing further study and future careers.

The Government has been promoting life planning education for students, to enable them to explore and understand better their own interests, potentials and career aspirations. For instance, the Business-School Partnership Programme, launched by the Education Bureau in collaboration with the business sector, NGOs and schools, leads students out of the classroom to gain a deeper and specific understanding about operation of different trades and day-to-day work of different job positions.

I have also allocated additional resources in this year Budget to regularise the Pilot Training and Support Scheme, to inject $800 million into the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund for offering more incentives to outstanding students, and to enhance the operation of the Continuing Education Fund to facilitate continued education by working people. The Government is also committed to diversifying economic growth and we have provided resources to support development of innovation and technology, cultures and art, as well as to nurture talented athletes. We hope that our work in this regard would provide our younger generation with more opportunities in realising their potential and fulfilling their aspirations.
