National rejuvenation – the best safeguard for Hong Kong’s development

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to and express my strong support for our country’s newly elected state leadership, particularly to Mr Xi Jinping, who has been unanimously elected as the President of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC at the 14th National People’s Congress today.

The election result has fully reflected the common will of the people of the whole nation. That President Xi has been unanimously elected is testimony to the shared aspiration of the people and whole-process democracy. Not only does it demonstrate the popular support for President Xi from various classes, sectors and communities of the country, it also manifests the people’s high acclaim for and full recognition of the great achievements made by the country under the leadership of President Xi.

In the past five years, President Xi has got himself personally involved in the formulation and implementation of various plans for Hong Kong. Under his care, Hong Kong has confidently embarked on a new journey from stability to prosperity following the transition from chaos to order, with the implementation of “One Country, Two Systems” back on track and progressing steadfastly and successfully. President Xi’s great care, full support and guidance provide the strongest safeguard for Hong Kong’s development and underpin our confidence in the success of the city.

Following the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has embarked on a new journey of building itself into a modern socialist country in all respects. In joy and delight, let us join hands with the whole nation and work hard to achieve the second centenary goal of China under the leadership of President Xi.

As our country embarks on a new journey, Hong Kong is also entering a new stage.
Hong Kong is set to grasp new opportunities and achieve new development.
Hong Kong must play an irreplaceable role in shouldering this historic mission.
Hong Kong must achieve better development as it goes full steam ahead with its integration into national development.
Confident in our future, we are determined to make more irreplaceable contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
