Colour for the Budget

This Wednesday, I will deliver the Budget for the next financial year. Thank you all for the valuable views provided during the Budget consultation period. They have helped us better understand your concerns. In face of budget deficit, we hope to put limited public resources to more focused and effective use.

Over the past year, our life has gradually returned to normal. Positive economic growth has resumed as the epidemic subsided. However, the external environment is still complex and volatile, while geopolitical tensions have persisted and interest rates remained high. These intertwining uncertainties have impacted the momentum of economic growth.

Nevertheless, with the country’s steady economic development and its unwavering support for Hong Kong, we enjoy a unique position and play distinct roles in the overall development of our country. Solid backing of the country, and our connectivity to the world, are our greatest advantage. We must leverage them to turn opportunities into real benefits.

The choice of colour for the annual Budget cover symbolises our expectations for Hong Kong in the year to come. We anticipate that our economy will improve gradually this year, and expect sustained improvement in the business environment for various sectors. The colour of this year’s Budget cover is a vivid reflection of our hopes.
